HDMI Wireless Around The Corner

HDMI cables are pretty pricy today but we are willing to dish out the money for the good quality. When you get the cable you usually try to go as short as possible for your needs. Well maybe it’s just me but that’s what I do: measure the distance from the devices that will be connected and add a foot or so. Good thing I moved not too long ago so I don’t have to worry about how or where my components will be placed anytime soon. I wouldn’t be too happy if I had to buy another HDMI cable.

But hey, you can do this wirelessly. Looks like Philips will be releasing their wireless HDMI kit (click for more). Obviously its more expensive than a cable, but will the consumers be willing to pay around $300 for the kit? Wireless HDMI is pretty neat, I cannot deny that, but I don’t think the investment is worth it. The two receivers that make up the kit both require power, so you got two additional cables running right there. Less cable is always better as far as I’m concerned. Plus, HDMI cables are dropping in price. Any smart consumer would look online for the cables and not dish out over $150 at Best Buy for 25ft HDMI cable.

Still, I have to commend Philips for being the first ones to provide wireless video connection for HDMI. I always thought it would be neat to have wireless video.
